Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has distanced himself from a viral comment he reportedly made about the pending FIFA ruling on Nigeria’s petition against DR Congo.
The midfielder was said to have asked FIFA for “clarity” as the Super Eagles of Nigeria await FIFA’s decision on the petition the Nigeria Football Federation submitted to FIFA in November.
However, NFF’s media officer, Ayo Olu Ibidapo, while speaking on his YouTube channel, said the player was surprised to learn about the news as he did not make such a comment.
The Nigeria Football Federation accused the DR Congo of using a couple of ineligible players during the FIFA World Cup playoffs, where the Leopards progressed over the Super Eagles on penalties.
“He said he was surprised that I brought it to his attention, as he did not say anything of the sort. He never mentioned or spoke to anyone about it,”
The comment caught the attention of Nigerian football fans online as speculations surrounding the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup linger.
With the intercontinental playoffs set for the end of the month in Mexico, FIFA’s verdict on the petition the NFF submitted remains pending.
