Germany booked their place in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 semi-finals after a dramatic 1–1 draw with France, winning 6–5 in a tense penalty shootout in Basel.

The game turned early when Germany’s Kathrin Hendrich was sent off in the 13th minute for pulling Griedge Mbock Bathy’s hair inside the box. France capitalized from the spot as Grace Geyoro converted the penalty to give them the lead.

Despite being a player down, Germany responded bravely. Sjoeke Nüsken equalized in the 26th minute with a well-taken header from a corner, bringing the match level and setting up a tight contest. Both sides had goals ruled out, and France came closest to a winner in extra time, hitting the post.

The match went to penalties, where Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger emerged as the star. The goalkeeper saved two spot-kicks and even scored one herself. Nüsken also stepped up to convert hers, helping Germany edge the shootout 6–5.

France had more chances and possession but couldn’t break through Germany’s organized defense. Germany now advance to face Spain in the semi-finals but will be without Nüsken, who is suspended after receiving her second yellow card of the tournament.
