2024 Wrap: Top 5 most disappointing teams of the year

We continue our 2024 wrap with the most disappointing football teams of the year. Teams that promised much but failed to deliver.

Here are our top 5, in descending order.

5. Brazil

The Selecao went into Copa America boasting some of the best footballers in the world, including Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Lucas Paqueta, and more.

However, they only managed to reach the quarter-finals after stumbling out of the group stage.

4. Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s men actually had a stellar first six months, holding off Arsenal to win the Premier League but everything has gone downhill since.

The champions have won just once in their last 13 games, with their title hopes completely extinguished.

3. Napoli

Napoli won their first Scudetto since 1990, and with Victor Osimhen leading the attack, the hope was for them to consolidate.

However, they imploded, finishing ninth and changing three managers in one season. Antonio Conte’s arrival has put the Naples club back on track.

2. Bayern Munich

The Bundesliga giants went trophyless for the first time in over 30 years, losing the league title to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Harry Kane arrived from Tottenham and scored 45 goals in his debut season, but it was not enough.

1. Manchester United

The Red Devils have been in free fall for several years but 2024 was a new low in a long list of lows.

Erik ten Hag, who has since been fired, led the club to its lowest-ever league finish of 8th, and it’s shocking to think they might finish even lower this season.

A disastrous year all around.
