Amad Diallo has been in excellent form for Manchester United this season, almost single-handedly carrying the team on his back, while more senior players continue to falter.
He scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Southampton on Thursday night to add to his growing reputation.
The Ivorian has adapted seamlessly into the wing-back role under Ruben Amorim and his numbers this season, 6 goals, and 6 assists in just 14 Premier League starts show his vast improvement.
Diallo is arguably the second most in-form African player at the moment, behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, and if he keeps this form up, he will be a strong contender for 2025 CAF Player of the Year.
Diallo’s current form is a big deal, and here are three reasons why he’s got a good shot at the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award:
1. He’s doing it with a struggling team
Diallo’s doing well despite Manchester United’s struggles this season. He’s standing out even when the team isn’t playing great and has proven to be a match-winner. He has continued to rise to the occasion no matter how bad his teammates are.
2. Ivory Coast could be key
Diallo’s form certainly puts him right in the frame to star for Ivory Coast in December at AFCON. There’s no doubt the Ivorians have a better squad than Mohamed Salah’s Egypt, and as defending champions, it will be hard to bet against them.
3. Current form
There’s no doubt that Diallo will finish the season as Manchester United’s player of the season, and if he continues at this rate, he could give Salah a run for his money in the Premier League awards. One thing is certain, he is the best young player in England. Should he lead United to Europa League glory, there will be real discussions considering his standing in the African pecking order.
