Abdessamad “Abde” Ezzalzouli is one of Morocco’s most exciting young footballers, making waves both in European club football and on the international stage.
At just 23, his career has already featured historic milestones, standout performances, and a growing reputation as a dynamic winger.
Here are three key things to know about him:
1. From Morocco to Spain: A Unique Football Journey
Born on December 17, 2001, in Béni Mellal, Morocco, Ezzalzouli moved to Elche, Spain, at the age of 7.
He began his football journey with local clubs like Raval CF and Kelme CF before joining Hércules CF, where he made his professional debut in 2019.

His talent caught the attention of FC Barcelona, and in 2021, he became the first Moroccan-born player to feature for the club’s senior team, debuting in a La Liga match against Alavés on October 30, 2021.
2. A Key Player for Morocco’s National Teams
Ezzalzouli has been instrumental for Morocco’s national teams across various age levels.
He represented the U-20 team at the 2020 Arab Cup U-20, scoring two goals in five games. In 2022, he made his senior debut during a World Cup qualifier against DR Congo and was part of Morocco’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

In 2023, he captained Morocco’s U-23 team to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title, contributing three goals and three assists in four matches.
This victory secured Morocco’s qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where Ezzalzouli continued to shine, scoring a brilliant goal in the bronze medal match against Egypt, helping Morocco secure a historic 6-0 win and their first Olympic medal in a team sport.
3. Making an Impact at Real Betis
After stints with Barcelona and a loan to Osasuna, Ezzalzouli joined Real Betis in September 2023.
In the 2024/25 season, he has made 32 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists in La Liga.
His performances have been pivotal in Betis’s campaign, including a notable goal in the UEFA Conference League final against Chelsea, making him only the second Moroccan to score in a European final.
With his blend of technical skill, speed, and vision, Abde Ezzalzouli continues to be a player to watch, both for Real Betis and the Moroccan national team.
