Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen said the heavy rainfall in Abidjan affected the performance of his team against the Cheetars of Benin Republic.

The Super Eagles played a one-all draw against the Cheetars at the Stade Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny on Thursday night.

Stanley Nwanbali’s howler led to Mohammed Tijani’s opener for the Cheetars on the 16th minute.

The Super Eagles looked out of sort for most parts of the game until Victor Osimhen’s equaliser on the 81st minute via a header from Moses Simon’s cross.

While reacting to the match, Austin Eguavoen acknowledged that it was a difficult match and the rain mase it difficult for the Super Eagles.

He went on to praise the team for their resilience and as well as securing qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

“It was a tough game and I congratulate the players for a spirited display in the second half that earned us the equalizer. The downpour made the game difficult for both teams, but I am happy we have the AFCON finals ticket in the bag”

The Super Eagles qualified for the competition with two games to spare following Libya’s 1-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali an hour before kick-off.

Nigeria will play Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Monday as they look to round off the qualification series with a win.
