3 reasons Chelsea will NOT qualify for Champions League next season

Chelsea’s strong start to the season has given way to a dismal run of one win in seven games. With tougher fixtures on the horizon, it’s increasingly likely that the Blues will miss out on a top-four spot and Champions League qualification.

Here are three key reasons why:

Nicolas Jackson’s Limitations

Nicolas Jackson’s inconsistency upfront is a major concern. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, the Senegalese striker lacks the reliability and finishing prowess required to lead Chelsea’s attack.

The Blues need a more clinical striker, perhaps the likes of Victor Osimhen or Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, to spearhead their charge.

Jackson’s limitations in front of goal will continue to hinder Chelsea’s progress.

Robert Sanchez’s Errors

Robert Sanchez’s mistake-prone performances have become a recurring theme. The Chelsea goalkeeper made his 5th direct error leading to a goal this season, as Manchester City ran out 3-1 winners at the Etihad on Saturday.

Sanchez’s inconsistency is a problem for Maresca, and the Blues must invest in a world-class goalkeeper before the window closes to have any chance of maintaining defensive solidity and finishing as strongly as possible.

Big game failures

Chelsea’s inability to beat top-four rivals has been a recurring issue. Defeats to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City (twice) have left the Blues struggling to keep pace.

To stand a chance of finishing in the top four, Chelsea must start winning these high-stakes matches. Until they can overcome their big-game jitters, a Champions League spot will remain elusive.
