South Africa triumphs over Benin, Rwanda and Lesotho share spoils in World Cup Qualifiers

In today’s FIFA World Cup 2026 African qualifiers, both Rwanda and Lesotho, as well as South Africa and Benin, competed in crucial Group C matches.

The match between Rwanda and Lesotho concluded with a 1-1 draw. The first half saw both teams struggling to break the deadlock, leading to a goalless halftime.

In the second half, Rwanda managed to score, taking a 1-0 lead through Jojea Kwizera. However, Lesotho responded with an equalizer in the 82nd minute via Lehlohonolo Fothoane, ensuring the match ended in a stalemate.

This result leaves both teams with a point each in their quest for qualification.

Elsewhere in the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane, South Africa secured a 2-0 victory over Benin in their Group C encounter.

After a goalless first half, South Africa broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a goal from Lyle Foster.

Jayden Adams extended the lead in the 84th minute, sealing the win for Bafana Bafana.

These results have significant implications for the Group C standings as teams vie for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

This victory bolsters South Africa’s position in the group standings as they sit comfortably on top of the table with 13 points, while Benin are 3rd with 8 points.

Rwanda sit second having also accumulated 8 points with goal difference separating them and Benin. Lesotho sit 5th with 6 points.
