Tottenham Hotspur have made the shocking decision to sack head coach Ange Postecoglou, despite him ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought with a Europa League victory.
The dismissal, described as a “unanimous decision” by the board, comes just 16 days after Postecoglou led Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao, securing their first European trophy in 41 years.

The decision was finalized after a meeting led by chairman Daniel Levy, held late into the night following Tottenham’s 4-1 home defeat to Brighton in their final Premier League game of the season, just five days after the euphoria of the Bilbao triumph.
Despite the historic European success, Spurs’ dismal domestic campaign, finishing 17th in the Premier League with a record 22 defeats and only 38 points, proved too significant to overlook.
In a statement, Tottenham acknowledged the weight of the decision: “Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.
“It is crucial we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond.”
Tottenham have now set their sights on Brentford’s Thomas Frank as the leading contender to replace Postecoglou.
