Newcastle United have turned down an initial offer from Liverpool for their star striker Alexander Isak, with the Magpies valuing the Swedish international at approximately £150m.
The exact figure of Liverpool’s bid remains undisclosed, but fell short of Newcastle’s valuation.
Isak, who was omitted from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to his desire to explore a potential move, is training alone at his former club, Real Sociedad, amid ongoing uncertainty about his future.
The 25-year-old, who joined Newcastle from the La Liga side for £60m in 2022, scored 27 goals in 42 appearances last season, attracting significant interest despite Newcastle’s qualification for the 2025-26 Champions League.
BBC Sport reported in July that Liverpool were contemplating a move for Isak, potentially worth up to £130m.
Although Newcastle have insisted the striker is not for sale this summer, Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, approached last month and have now submitted an official bid.
Manager Arne Slot is eager to bolster his attacking options with Isak before the new season begins.
It remains unclear whether Liverpool will return with an improved offer, but Slot’s determination to secure the prolific forward suggests negotiations may intensify in the coming weeks.
