Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has strongly asserted that the Nigerian national team will not be mere participants at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Chippa United keeper is widely expected to retain his place as Eric Chelle’s first choice in goal as Nigeria looks to go one step further, having finished as runners-up at the last edition.

Nigeria is drawn in Group C alongside formidable opponents Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, but Nwabali insists the country’s motivation is solely victory.
“Nigeria is a big nation,” Nwabali said on Supersports. “Going into a tournament like AFCON, which is one of the biggest in the world, the aim is to win.”

He acknowledged the heavy pressure that comes with representing a continental powerhouse. “As a big nation, we are always expected to win and not just to participate, but football is unpredictable. However, after making the final at the last edition, this year I believe we are going to win.”
Nigeria kicks off their AFCON 2025 journey with a clash against Tanzania on December 23 in Morocco.
