Manchester City’s Club World Cup title defense came to end on Monday night after a thrilling affair against Al Hilal.

The Saudi club, led by former Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi orchestrated a comeback win to kick the defending champions out of the competition.

Manchester City came into the second round fixture with a 100% win record having won all their group stage games.

Al Hila had to wait till the final game to secure qualification for the second round after a 2-0 win over Pachuca.

However, the Saudi Pro League side showed resilience and sheer determination pushing Pep Guardiola’s men beyond the limit.

Moroccan goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou put up a remarkable performance on the night to deny Manchester City attempts on goal.

The former Sevilla shot stopper made 10 saves from Manchester City’s 14 shots on target in a fantastic individual outing.

Phil Foden’s 104th minute equalizer gave Man City hope at 3-3 after 104 minutes of action as the pulsating encounter appeared to be heading penalties.

However Marcos Leonardo beat the offside trap to tapp home a rebound six minutes later to seal the win for Al Hilal.

Al Hilal will take on Fluminense in the quarter-finals after the Brazilian side knocked out Inter Milan.
