Arsenal came from behind to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, extending their unbeaten start to the season, while Everton snatched a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to draw 2-2 with Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Chelsea shocked the home crowd inside the opening two minutes when Morgan Rogers finished off a chance created by Jorrel Hato, giving Xabi Alonso’s side an early lead in the London derby.
Arsenal responded before half-time through Kai Havertz, who equalised in the 25th minute with a near-post header from an Odegaard delivery, before the Arsenal captain turned goalscorer himself, netting the winner in the 50th minute shortly after the restart to complete the turnaround.
The result moves Arsenal to three wins from three league games and nine points, keeping the reigning champions perfect this season. Chelsea, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat under Alonso after an unbeaten start to his tenure.
Across Merseyside, Manchester United looked set to snatch victory after a back-and-forth contest at Everton. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead before Tyrique George drew Everton level in the second half.
Substitute Benjamin Sesko then restored United’s lead deep into the game, appearing to have won it for the visitors as Everton fans braced for defeat.
But Everton debutant Ainsley Maitland-Niles had other ideas, curling a stunning strike into the top corner deep in stoppage time to snatch a point and cap a thrilling finish at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The results leave Arsenal firmly in control at the top of the early table, while both Everton and Manchester United will have contrasting emotions from a share of the spoils on a dramatic afternoon of Premier League football.
