Arsenal reclaim top spot, Liverpool’s resurgence continues as Brentford put Bournemouth to the sword

Arsenal are back on top of the Premier League less than three two hours after dropping to second following Manchester City’s win over Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners needed a reaction and got one and as they sealed a win over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium.

Norwegian midfielder, Martin Ordegaard put the Gunners ahead in the 14th minute as he buried a low drive into the bottom corner from Bukayo Saka’s cross.

Georginio Rutter’s attempt to head the ball away from goal landed inside his net as Arsenal took a two-goal lead a few minutes after the restart.

Bert Verbruggen had quite a busy evening as he made a couple of saves including Viktor Gyokores’s attempt to triple Arsenal’s lead.

Diego Gomez latched onto a rebound and fired the ball into an open net to reduce the deficit for Brighton four minutes after the hour mark.

The tie ended 2-1 in favour of the Gunners as they return to top of the Premier League with two points above Manchester City.

In other results, Liverpool’s resurgence continued on Saturday evening as they compounded the woes of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Florian Wirtz scored his first Premier League goal as the Reds sealed a 2-1 victory over strughling Wolves who remain without a win this season.

Raul Jimenez’s goal five minutes from time sealed a 1-0 win for Fulham over Westham United at the London Stadium.

Kevin Schade was the hero at the GTECH Stadium as Brentford tore struggling Bournemouth aside.

The 24-year-old German midfielder bagged a perfect hat trick as the Bees picked up a 4-1 win over Andoni Iraola’s men.
