Taiwo Awoniyi ensured Chelsea lost for the sixth consecutive time in the league after the Nigerian striker bagged a brace in Nottingham Forest’s win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

The 28-year-old striker continued his impressive goalscoring form against big teams as he scored twice against the Blues in the 3-1 win over the hosts.

Awoniyi scored his fourth goal in six appearances against Chelsea, making the London side one of his favorite clubs to play against.

While speaking in a post-match reaction, Awoniyi emphasized teamwork as the key ingredient for the team’s victory. Awoniyi told Sky Sports, via the BBC:

“Football is a team game; everyone needs to be ready, and it’s not about everyone starting, it’s about the team.

“We came here with the mentality to win, good ball from [Dilane] Bakwa [for his goal] as well, and the way we started the game, we had more of the ball, brilliant from the team.

“Kudos to the manager and the staff – not only the people on the ground but the nutritionists, physio. It’s all about the team and looking forward to the next game. I believe it could be an amazing season for us.”

Meanwhile, Awoniyi’s goal 97 seconds into the match broke a 13-year record at Stamford Bridge. Awoniyi’s goal is the earliest Premier League away goal against Chelsea since Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez scored 13 seconds into the match in December, 2013.
