William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has declared that due to the circumstances they were put in, the team will not play their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

Following the disastrous Matchday 4 match of the 2025 AFCON qualification series between Nigeria and Libya in Benina on October 15, the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Nigeria three points and three goals.

The Libya Football Federation was deemed to have violated Article 31 of the Africa Cup of Nations Regulations of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

Libya lost by forfeit by a score of 3-0 in CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 match No. 87, which was supposed to take place in Benghazi on October 15.

As a result of the ruling, Rwanda has five points and the Eagles have 10 points from four games, four more than second-place Benin Republic.

Libya, in last place, is eliminated from the running for qualifying after receiving just one point.

If the Super Eagles defeat or draw with the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Abidjan on Thursday, November 14, in a Matchday 5 match, they will advance to the finals in Morocco in December 2025/January 2026.
