The 2025 AfroBasket quarterfinals produced contrasting but equally dramatic outcomes on Thursday, as Cameroon and Angola booked their places in the semifinals with convincing wins over Egypt and Cape Verde respectively.
Cameroon were ruthless in the afternoon fixture, dismantling previously unbeaten Egypt 95-68. A blistering 11-0 run in the opening quarter set the tone, with team captain Fabien Ateba leading the charge with 26 points, including five three-pointers.

Jeremiah Hill, returning from injury, added 20 points as the Lions reached their first AfroBasket semifinal since 2009. Egypt, who had impressed in the group stages, struggled to match Cameroon’s intensity despite solid efforts from Anas Mahmoud (14 points) and Patrick Gardner (13 points).
Later in the evening, hosts Angola delighted a record crowd of 12,700 at the Kilamba Arena by edging Cape Verde 90-80 in a tightly contested battle. Childe Dundao stole the show with a game-high 30 points, while Aboubacar Gakou contributed 14 as Angola extended their unbeaten run to 4-0.

Cape Verde fought valiantly, with Joel Almeida scoring 19 points off the bench and star center Edy Tavares adding 17, but the 10-point defeat ended their campaign.
With the victories, Angola and Cameroon advance to the semifinals, joining Côte d’Ivoire’s earlier exit victims as the competition narrows towards the business end of the tournament.
Both teams will now look to carry their momentum into the final four as the chase for the AfroBasket crown intensifies.
