Chelsea’s dream of qualifying for a European competition next season continues to fade with two matches to end of the season.
The Blues held Liverpool to a one-all at Anfield on Saturday afternoon’s tea break kick-off ending their six-game losing streak in the league.
Ryan Gravenvach put Liverpool ahead after six minutes with a well-taken shot from the edge of the box from Rio Ngumoha’s pass.
Virgil van Dijk almost doubled the lead five minutes later but his header went narrowly off target as Chelsea struggled to settle into the game.
Giorgi Mamardashvili pulled a brilliant save to deny Marc Cucurella’s attempt at goal but couldn’t stop Enzo Fernandez’s as the Argentine scored with a sublime strike to restore parity.
A few minutes later, Mamardashvili denied Enzo Fernandez from giving Chelsea the lead as he stopped his shot with a nice save.
Chelsea ended the first half as the better side and started the second on a brilliant note as Cole Palmer put the visitors ahead from a rebound.
Unfortunately, his goal was ruled offside as the scoreline remained a goal apiece after 50 minutes of play.
Ryan Gravenvach’s long range strike came off the bar while video assistant referee cleared Chelsea’s claim for a late penalty.
The tie ended 1-1 leaving Liverpool in the top five while Chelsea drops to ninth momentarily with the chance of qualifying for Europe bleak.
