Club World Cup: Inter, Monterrey march into last sixteen as Urawa, River Plate crash out

Inter Milan and Monterrey have booked their spots in the last sixteen of the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Both sides recorded important wins in their final group matches over River Plate and Urawa Reds on Thursday afternoon.

Inter Milan had to dig deep to see off Argentine powerhouse River Plate while Monterrey took apart Urawa Reds convincing.

Francesco Pio Esposito gave Christian Chivu’s men the lead after 70 minutes of action. The Teenage striker powered a low drive into the bottom corner from Henrikh Mkhtaryan’s pass.

Alessandro Bastoni sealed the win with a sublime individual effort to send Inter into the round of sixteen as group winners.

On the other hand, Monterrey didn’t break a sweat to breeze past Japanese side Urawa Reds unlike Inter.

26-year-old striker German Beterame scored twice, while Nelson Deosa and Jesus Corona got on the scoresheet in a convincing 4-0 win.

Inter will take on Fluminense while Monterrey tackle Borussia Dortmund in the round of sixteen.
