In a heartwarming revelation during his appearance on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, French footballer, Kingsley Coman shared his deep admiration for Nigerian football legend, Jay-Jay Okocha.

The Bayern Munich winger disclosed that Okocha was one of the biggest influences on his football journey and a key reason he developed an early love for the game.

Coman, a 2018 FIFA World Cup winner with France, told Ferdinand that Okocha’s exceptional flair, creativity, and charisma on the pitch left a lasting impression on him as a young boy.

He stated, “When I was young, apart from Ronaldinho, Jay-Jay Okocha was my favorite player. He brought something special to football—his skill, his energy, his flair—it was magic.”

The 27-year-old recounted how Okocha’s dazzling performances at Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League made him a fan of the club, even though Bolton was not a traditionally a big team. “I liked Bolton because of Okocha,” Coman revealed. “I didn’t care much about other players there; I just loved watching him. His tricks, his dribbles, and the way he made football look so easy—it was pure joy.”

Okocha, often hailed as one of Africa’s most skillful players, played for Bolton Wanderers from 2002 to 2006. During his time at the club, he was instrumental in elevating Bolton’s status in English football. Known for his breathtaking dribbles, audacious skills, and unmatched confidence on the ball, Okocha became a fan favorite and inspired a generation of players with his artistry.

Jay-Jay Okocha’s legacy extends far beyond Bolton Wanderers. A two-time African Cup of Nations winner with Nigeria and an Olympic gold medalist, Okocha’s impact on African and global football remains significant. Despite never winning major European club titles, his artistry on the ball left a lasting impression on fans and players alike.
