Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye has appealed to Nigerian football fans to stopping referring to him as Manchester United and Cameroon’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana.
The striking resemblance of the two goalkeepers has prompted fans to refer to Adeleye as the Nigerian version of Andre Onana.
However, in an appeal to the fans, Adeleye says he is a different person and has different career and nationality as opposed to the Cameroonian shot-stopper.
To the esteemed public, I wish to clarify a pressing matter regarding my identity. My name is Adebayo Adeleye, and I am a Nigerian goalkeeper. Unfortunately, some individuals have been mistakenly referring to me as Andre Onana, the renowned Cameroonian goalkeeper.
“I kindly request that the public refrain from associating me with Andre Onana, as we are two distinct individuals with different nationalities and careers. I am proud to be Adebayo Adeleye, a Nigerian and I would appreciate it if my correct identity is respected and used in all references.”
Adebayo Adeleye is one of the three invited goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali and Amas Obasogie for Super Eagles crucial World Cup qualifiers.
The Volos FC goalkeeper will be on the bench but be ready to play if the need arises as the Super Eagles host Rwanda on Saturday, August 6 and South Africa next week.
