Edo Queens Crowned WAFU-B Champions, Qualify for CAF Women’s Champions League

Edo Queens have been crowned WAFU-B champions after defeating Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4–1 on penalties following a 2–2 draw in Saturday’s final at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou.

The victory secured Edo Queens the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying title and Nigeria’s place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens twice came from behind against Ampem Darkoa before forcing the match into a penalty shootout with a stoppage-time equaliser.

Beline Nyarko gave Ampem Darkoa an early lead in the second minute, but Edo Queens responded two minutes later through Doosuur Anastasia Atume.

Nyarko restored Ampem Darkoa’s advantage in the second half, converting a penalty to put the Ghanaian champions 2–1 ahead.

Edo Queens continued to push for an equaliser and were rewarded in the third minute of stoppage time when Oluebube Umejiaku scored to make it 2–2 and force a shootout.

The Nigerian champions converted all four of their penalties, while Ampem Darkoa scored only once from their three attempts as Edo Queens secured a 4–1 shootout victory.

The result completed a turnaround for Edo Queens, who had lost 2–1 to Ampem Darkoa in their Group B meeting on August 30.

Edo Queens had opened their campaign with a 7–0 victory over AS GNN of Niger before defeating Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas 3–1.

They then suffered their only defeat of the tournament against Ampem Darkoa before responding with a 5–1 semi-final victory over hosts USFA on September 3.

The final victory means Edo Queens will represent the WAFU-B zone at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was also named Player of the Tournament following Edo Queens’ successful campaign.
