La Liga returned in dramatic fashion on Sunday with three matches delivering goals, comebacks, and early talking points for the new season.
In Vigo, Getafe opened their campaign with a composed 2-0 win away to Celta. The breakthrough came almost immediately after the restart, when Liso found the net in the 47th minute. Uche then doubled the visitors’ lead midway through the half, sealing a professional performance that frustrated the home crowd.
At San Mamés, Athletic Club and Sevilla produced a five-goal thriller. Nico Williams was the standout, winning and converting a penalty for the opener before setting up Maroan to make it 2-1 before half-time.
Sevilla clawed their way back into the game, but Williams again made the difference, laying on the assist for Robert Navarro’s decisive strike. The 3-2 result underlined both Athletic’s attacking intent and Sevilla’s lingering defensive concerns.
In Barcelona, Espanyol shocked Atlético Madrid with a late turnaround to claim a 2-1 victory. Atlético looked in control after Julián Álvarez curled in a superb free-kick in the 37th minute.

But Espanyol’s persistence paid off in the final stages: Miguel Rubio equalised in the 73rd minute, and Pere Milla completed the comeback six minutes from time with a brave diving header that sent the home fans into raptures.
