The drama peaked in the 75th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo, aiming to extend his all-time scoring record, saw his penalty kick heroically saved by Kelleher. Ronaldo had earlier hit the post in the 17th minute.
Just when a shock draw seemed inevitable, Rúben Neves came to the rescue in the 90th minute. The Al Hilal midfielder rose in the box to powerfully head home a perfect cross from Trincão, sealing the narrow win and sparking immense relief across the home stadium.
