Everyone can’t go to the World Cup” – Eric Chelle sends clear message ahead of Lesotho clash

Nigeria head coach, Eric Chelle has delivered a blunt but honest message to his players ahead of their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, reminding them that only the best will make it to the global stage.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Chelle stressed the importance of focus and determination as the Super Eagles prepare for a must-win encounter that could define their qualification hopes.

“Everybody can’t go to the World Cup,” Chelle said. “That’s the truth of football. We all want it, but only those who show the right attitude, discipline, and fight will earn that ticket. We must stay focused on what we want to achieve.”

Chelle’s statement comes at a tense time for Nigeria, who sit in a precarious position in their qualifying group. The team’s recent inconsistent performances have left fans anxious, and the coach knows a slip-up against Lesotho could prove costly.

The Franco-Malian tactician emphasized that his side cannot afford any complacency, urging his players to approach the game with intensity from the first whistle.

“We have no room for error. Every ball, every duel, every moment counts,” he added. “In football, anything can happen — weather, refereeing, small mistakes — so we must control what we can and give everything.”

Meanwhile, reports had circulated suggesting NFF Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen could replace Chelle if Nigeria fails to qualify.

Despite external pressure, Chelle remains focused on guiding Nigeria back to the World Cup — a feat fans and former players alike see as non-negotiable.
