Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly considering former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso, who is likely to join Real Madrid after Carlo Ancelotti’s expected departure.
According to Sky Sports Germany, Ten Hag has emerged as the frontrunner, and preliminary talks have been scheduled.
The Dutch tactician, who was sacked by Manchester United earlier this season and replaced by Ruben Amorim, is currently unemployed and seeking the right managerial opportunity.
Despite winning the League Cup and FA Cup with Manchester United, Ten Hag struggled to improve the club’s Premier League performance.

Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, is evaluating candidates, with Ten Hag and former Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez as top contenders.
Ten Hag’s prior experience as Bayern Munich II coach (2013–2015), fluency in German, and familiarity with Bundesliga culture make him a strong candidate.
His successful tenure at Ajax, where he led the team to a Champions League semifinal and multiple league titles, further bolsters his credentials for the Leverkusen job, despite his challenges at Manchester United.
