Fact-Finding Panel Clears Players, Points Finger at NFF Officials Over Super Falcons’ World Cup Exit

The Nigeria Football Federation’s fact-finding committee investigating the Super Falcons’ failed WAFCON 2026 title defence and their missed 2027 Women’s World Cup qualification has submitted its official report, pointing to deep-rooted administrative, financial, and governance problems within Nigerian football rather than isolated technical failures.

The report, dated August 21, 2026 and signed off in Abuja, was compiled by a six-member panel chaired by Ambassador Fanny I. Amun, with Dr Alex Mana, Desire Oparanozie, Ladan Bosso, and Mutiu Adepoju as members, and Nasiru Jibril serving as secretary. The committee examined governance, finance, technical development, grassroots football, and league management across a 35-point breakdown of issues, before submitting recommendations it says are meant to provide “a clear roadmap for rebuilding a football system that works for players, clubs, and the nation.”

On the playing side, the committee found no evidence that any player’s influence undermined team selection or camp cohesion, stating that players cooperated with one another throughout. It did, however, flag concerns over how certain officials moved in and out of the team’s camp without proper control, and it addressed the case of defender Ashleigh Plumptre directly, confirming she had undergone surgery and was certified unfit to play by team doctors both in Nigeria and at her foreign club.

More striking are the governance allegations documented in the report. The committee noted claims that some NFF board members influence player invitations to the national teams, both locally and internationally, and that certain coaches and officials have invited players into camp for personal financial gain.

It also recorded allegations that board members and NFF management staff receive incentives to compromise decisions ahead of national team call-ups, and that some staff are allowed to overstay in lucrative positions, a practice the report says breeds unnecessary rivalry within the federation. A separate finding describes an unresolved incident involving missing money during the team’s stay in Morocco.

The report further raises the recurring complaint that while players and their officials often go unpaid during major tournaments, board members and NFF management staff travelling with the delegation are paid, a disparity the committee says needs to be addressed.

The committee also references an allegation that the NFF Congress has resisted amending the federation’s statutes despite requests from three successive Nigerian presidents to do so.

Beyond the Super Falcons, the committee’s recommendations touch nearly every layer of the game, from stricter age verification and coaching certification standards to a call for better-structured funding across the NPFL, NNL, NLO, and NWFL, and closer alignment between the women’s league and its male counterpart. It also urged the NFF to modernise its data and technology systems, tighten regulatory oversight, and rein in the negative effects of social media on team cohesion.

In its closing remarks, the committee called for practical, implementable reforms backed by “political will,” while commending the team for its efforts in Morocco despite the outcome. The panel said its full appendices contain the detailed discussions behind each finding, for what it described as a better understanding of the issues raised.
