Turkish Süper Lig reigning champions Galatasaray have rejected a bid worth approximately ₦189 billion (€120 million) for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
Despite appearing to have settled into life at Galatasaray with back to back league successes, Osimhen has been consistently linked with a move away from the club.
Speculation about Osimhen’s future has intensified in recent months, even though he only joined Galatasaray on a permanent transfer from Napoli last summer.
During the recently concluded season, the Nigerian star played a key role in the club’s success. He scored 22 goals and provided eight assists in 32 appearances, helping the Cimbom secure a fourth consecutive league title.
His was also impressive in he UEFA Champions League helping Galatasaray reach the round of 16 before losing to Liverpool on aggregate.
These impressive displays over the last three years have linked Osimhen with several top European clubs.
Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus, Atlético Madrid, and Bayern Munich have all shown interest as potential suitors, although no concrete deal has emerged.Meanwhile, the 27-year-old striker has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay in Istanbul.
Galatasaray have also remained firm in their position, consistently stating that they want to keep him. The club has now reinforced this stance by rejecting the latest bid.
According to Forza Cimbom, Atlético Madrid submitted the offer. Los Rojiblancos are targeting Osimhen as their primary striker, as they could lose both Alexander Sørloth and Julián Álvarez this summer.
Julian Alvarez who is currently with Argentina for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico is a prime target for Barcelona.
Galatasaray’s decision to turn down such a huge sum sends a bold message from a Turkish club as they intend to keep their star striker for at least another season.
Nevertheless, with the transfer window still open for several months, the situation could still change if the club faces further approaches.
Galatasaray could be tempted to consider a sale if Atletico Madrid returns with an improved bid for the Super Eagles striker.
