Hull City have today confirmed the signing of Nigeria international, Semi Ajayi on a two-year contract, with an option for a further year.
Ajayi, 31, arrives at the MKM Stadium on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with West Bromwich Albion on June 30. He’ll officially join the club on July 1.
The towering centre-back brings a wealth of Championship experience, having made over 170 league appearances for West Brom and close to 200 across all tiers, including Rotherham United, Cardiff City, Crewe, and AFC Wimbledon.
Born in Crayford but capped 39 times for Nigeria—including full participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final and a starring role in Nigeria’s recent Unity Cup win—Ajayi adds a proven international presence to the squad.
In an official statement, Ajayi expressed excitement: “I’m really excited… they sold me on the vision of the club and the plans for this season… I feel I can bring Championship know‑how, experience and leadership. I am comfortable on the ball, good in the air and my pace is an asset.”
Hull’s hierarchy, buoyed by avoiding relegation last season, see Ajayi as integral to their push up the Championship table under new boss Sergej Jakirović.
Ajayi is Hull’s fourth signing of the summer, following goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, midfielder Reda Laalaoui, and Gustavo Puerta.
Manager Jakirović will rely on Ajayi’s leadership from July, as Hull aim to rebound from a narrow escape last season and challenge for a top-half spot.
