Bendel Insurance and Shooting Stars settled for a 1-1 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Saturday.
The visitors made a bright start and stunned the home crowd in the fifth minute when Ismail Ayodele finished off a quick move to put Shooting Stars ahead. Insurance responded almost immediately, with Alex Oweilayefa levelling matters just seven minutes later, ensuring both teams were on the scoreboard early.
From then on, the contest turned into a cagey battle, with both sides creating half-chances but lacking the cutting edge to find a winner.
For Insurance, the point provides a small boost after their opening-day setback, while Shooting Stars will also take encouragement from earning a share of the spoils on the road.
Both teams now look ahead to next weekend, with Insurance travelling to Kano to face Barau FC and Shooting Stars preparing for a home fixture in Ibadan.
