Atletico Madrid secured a stunning and historic 5-2 rout of fierce rivals Real Madrid in the La Liga derby on Saturday.
The emphatic scoreline, marking the first time in 75 years that Atlético has netted five goals against their neighbours, handed manager Xabi Alonso his first league defeat of the season.

The match was a redemption story for Julian Alvarez, who had previously suffered a painful penalty mishap against Madrid. After Robin Le Normand opened the scoring for the hosts, Madrid briefly led 2-1 through goals from Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler.
However, Alexander Sorloth levelled before the break, setting the stage for Alvarez’s second-half masterclass. He converted a penalty after Guler’s foul and then sealed the win with a brilliant curling free-kick.
Madrid’s Jude Bellingham had a notably quiet return to the starting line-up following his shoulder surgery.
