Villarreal also secured a massive home win, routing Rayo Vallecano 4-0. The win lifted Villarreal into second place, applying pressure on rivals Barcelona, who play on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid kept pace with the leaders by defeating Sevilla 3-0 at home. Goals from Julián Álvarez and Thiago Almada, followed by a milestone goal from Antoine Griezmann, sealed a comfortable victory.
The only close contest was the fiery Basque derby, where Real Sociedad edged out Athletic Bilbao 3-2 thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Jon Gorrotxategi.
