Nantes secured a thrilling 1-0 win over Stade Rennais in the Brenton derby, thanks to a stunning late goal from Nigeria international Moses Simon.
The victory ended Nantes’ 10-match winless streak and lifted them off the bottom of the Ligue 1 table.
The match was tense, end to end, and full of drama. Rennes defender Mikayil Faye was sent off just before halftime for a reckless challenge, which swung the momentum in favour of the hosts.
However, despite their numerical advantage, Nantes struggled to break through Rennes’ defense until Simon’s moment of magic in the 89th minute.
The 29-year-old received the ball from Nicolas Pallois outside the penalty box, then weaved past two defenders with remarkable agility before firing a curling shot into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Steve Mandanda rooted to the spot.
The Ligue 1 official account praised Simon’s goal, posting: “Moses Simon, you’re unbelievable”
The win provides a glimmer of hope for Nantes in their battle against relegation.
