Madagascar make history, Morocco hold nerve as both reach CHAN final

Madagascar and Morocco booked their places in the final of the African Nations Championship after dramatic semifinal victories today.

In Dar es Salaam, Madagascar edged Sudan 1–0 after extra time to reach their first-ever CHAN final. The game was cagey, with Sudan creating the better chances through Mohamed Tia Asad and Walieldin Khdir, but failing to convert.

With penalties looming, substitute Toky Rakotondraibe struck in the 116th minute, finishing calmly from a cut-back to spark wild celebrations for the island nation’s historic triumph.

The second semifinal in Kampala saw Morocco knock out defending champions Senegal on penalties after a tense 1–1 draw.

Senegal struck first in the 16th minute through Joseph Layousse’s header, only for Sabir Bougrine to level for Morocco seven minutes later with a powerful long-range effort.

Both sides had openings but the goalkeepers stood firm, forcing the tie into a shootout. Morocco held their nerve, converting all five spot-kicks, while Senegal captain Seyni Ndiaye’s miss proved costly as the Atlas Lions advanced 5–3.

The results set up a mouthwatering final in Nairobi, where Morocco will chase a third CHAN crown against a spirited Madagascar side making history on debut. Senegal and Sudan will contest the third-place playoff.
