Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, scoring twice in the final ten minutes after trailing for most of the match, while Brighton beat Aston Villa 4-0 at the American Express Stadium in Sunday’s Premier League fixtures.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 26th minute through Marcus Tavernier, who converted after a combination between Rayan and Evanilson. Bournemouth then held that lead through the remainder of the first half and for most of the second.
However, Enzo Maresca’s substitutions changed the course of the match. Marc Guéhi headed City level in the 84th minute, and Josko Gvardiol struck the winner in the 92nd minute after a pass from Rayan Cherki, sealing Maresca’s first Premier League win as City manager.
Overall, City finished the match with 14 total shots to Bournemouth’s five, six shots on target to Bournemouth’s four, and eight corners to Bournemouth’s three. Meanwhile, City received one yellow card, and Bournemouth received two. Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and Rayan Cherki were involved in City’s attack throughout.
Meanwhile, at the American Express Stadium, Brighton raced into a 4-0 lead inside the first 31 minutes against Aston Villa. Victor Lindelöf put through his own net in the 8th minute, before Maxim De Cuyper added a second in the 18th minute, assisted by Georginio Rutter. Jack Hinshelwood then scored twice, in the 30th and 31st minutes, to complete the scoring.
In addition, Villa’s afternoon worsened when João Gomes was shown a straight red card in the 40th minute following a VAR review, reducing the visitors to ten men for the remainder of the match.
As a result, Brighton held 72 percent of possession and finished with 17 total shots to Villa’s six. Brighton had six shots on target, while Villa had none. Brighton received two yellow cards, whereas Villa received three yellow cards and one red card.
Looking ahead, City are next scheduled to play Crystal Palace away on August 28, while Brighton are next scheduled to play Chelsea away on August 30.
