Manchester United are close to announcing former midfielder Michael Carrick as interim coach of the club.
Michael Carrick is the preferred choice of the club’s hierarchy following contact with ex-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
According to reports, Carrick could be announced officially within the next 48 hours and should take charge of the team in the Manchester Derby.
Michael Carrick will replace his teammate Darren Fletcher who took charge of the team in two matches following the sack of Ruben Amorim last week.
Carrick will take over a downcast Manchester United side who crashed out of the FA Cup third round on Sunday following a 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.
However, the five-time Premier League winner will have Africa Cup of Nations returnees, Bryan Mbuemo and Amad Diallo available for selection.
The 44-year-old former Middlesbrough midfielder returns to the Theatre of Dreams for his third stint as Interim manager after the sack of Jose Mourinho in 2018 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.
