The nominations for the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards have been released, with Nigeria earning representation across three women’s categories.
This year’s ceremony will be held in Lagos at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu on Monday, December 7, 2026.
Nigeria’s nominees span the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year, Women’s Young Player of the Year, and Women’s National Team of the Year categories.
Christiana Uzoma of Edo Queens has been nominated for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. The goalkeeper earned the nod after strong performances for the NWFL champions and WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying finalists. She faces competition from Chloe N’Gazi, Michaely Bihina, Cynthia Konlan, Mercy Sikelo, Fatoumata Karantao, Khadija Er-Rmichi, Adji Ndiaye, Kaylin Swart and Hazel Nali.
Notably, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who won the award three years in a row, has missed out on a nomination this time.
In the Women’s Young Player of the Year category, Kemi Adegbuyi of Robo Queens and Nigeria’s Flamingos has been nominated. The young talent impressed in the NWFL, where she was named League and Super Six MVP, and also shone in the WAFU-B region during the Women’s Champions League qualifiers.
Joining her on the shortlist is Janet Akekoromowei, the Benfica and Falconets forward who has been in prolific scoring form.
The Super Falcons have also been nominated for Women’s National Team of the Year despite falling short of winning the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. They will compete against Algeria, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco and WAFCON champions Cameroon.
