PL Sunday: Liverpool stay perfect as Brighton stun Man City

Liverpool extended their perfect start to the Premier League season while Manchester City suffered another shock defeat in a dramatic Sunday of fixtures.

At the Amex Stadium, City looked set for victory when Erling Haaland marked his 100th Premier League appearance with a trademark first-half goal. But Brighton staged a remarkable fightback.

Veteran James Milner, at 39 years old, became the league’s oldest penalty scorer with a calm second-half equaliser before Brajan Gruda snatched a stoppage-time winner to seal a famous 2-1 win.

The result leaves City nursing back-to-back defeats and dents their early title momentum.

At Anfield, Liverpool maintained their flawless record with a 1-0 win over Arsenal. The game appeared destined for a stalemate until Dominik Szoboszlai produced a stunning free-kick from distance in the 83rd minute.

Arsenal, missing key players through injury, battled well but were undone by one moment of brilliance that keeps Liverpool top of the table.

West Ham finally picked up their first win of the campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest. Jarrod Bowen broke the deadlock late on before Lucas Paquetá doubled the lead from the penalty spot, celebrating by defiantly pointing to the club badge amid transfer speculation.

Substitute Callum Wilson added a third in stoppage time to round off a morale-boosting win for the Hammers.

At Villa Park, Crystal Palace impressed in a 3-0 triumph over Aston Villa. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half penalty set the tone, and second-half strikes from Marc Guéhi and Jordan Sarr completed a dominant display for Oliver Glasner’s side.

By the end of the day, Liverpool’s grip on first place tightened, Brighton celebrated one of their greatest Premier League victories, and City were left searching for answers heading into the international break.
