Rayo Vallecano battled back to secure a 1-1 draw with Barcelona, who dropped their first points in La Liga this season.
Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal gave Barcelona the lead in the 40th minute, converting a penalty he earned after being fouled by Rayo defender Pep Chavarria. However, the decision could not be reviewed because the VAR system was not functioning at the time.
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford made his third appearance for Barcelona, coming on in the 62nd minute. While he struggled to make a significant impact on the poor pitch, he did deliver an excellent corner that was headed over by Eric Garcia.
Rayo Vallecano found their equalizer in the 67th minute, with substitute Fran Perez scoring with a fantastic volley from a corner.
The hosts had a chance to take the lead, but Jorge de Frutos’ shot was saved by Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who also made a late save to deny Sergio Camello.
