Roma sack De Rossi 8 months after replacing Jose Mourinho

AS Roma have parted ways with manager Daniele de Rossi just four games into the new Serie A season. De Rossi, who replaced Jose Mourinho in January, failed to secure a single league win, with three draws and a shocking home loss to Empoli.

Roma’s underwhelming start has left them 16th in the standings, prompting the club to act swiftly. A statement released by Roma explained the decision was made “in the interest of the team” to get the season back on track.

“We thank Daniele for his passion and dedication,” the statement read. “He will always be welcome at the Giallorossi club.”

De Rossi’s tenure began promisingly, with Roma losing just once in his first 11 league matches and earning 26 points from 33. They also reached the Europa League semifinals and secured sixth place last season, qualifying for this season’s competition.

This summer, Roma brought in Artem Dovbyk and Mats Hummels but saw key players depart, including Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham, Romelu Lukaku, Andrea Belotti, Rui Patricio, and Leonardo Spinazzola.
