Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has provided a positive update following his recent hamstring surgery.
The 23-year-old shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram, captioned: “The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun and I’m coming back stronger! Thank you all for your messages.”
Saka sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace on December 20, 2024, leaving the field in the first half. Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Saka underwent a successful procedure and is expected to be sidelined for over two months.
Arteta stated, “It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal… It’s very difficult to say.”
In Saka’s absence, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win against Ipswich Town, with Gabriel Martinelli filling in on the right wing. Arteta acknowledged that adjusting to Saka’s absence will take time, noting, “There were moments where it flowed well tonight and moments where you could see there is still work to do.”
Arsenal currently sits second in the Premier League, six points behind Liverpool. The Gunners are preparing for upcoming fixtures against Brentford on New Year’s Day and Brighton & Hove Albion on January 4.
The team is also anticipating the return of Raheem Sterling, on loan from Chelsea, who is recovering from a knee injury and could bolster the squad during Saka’s recovery period.
Saka’s determination to return stronger has been met with widespread support from fans and teammates, who eagerly await his return to the pitch.
