Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth is departing the club after just five months in the role.
Ashworth, who officially started on July 1, will leave following the team’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
During his tenure, Ashworth oversaw a significant £200m summer transfer spend, bringing in players such as Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, and Matthijs de Ligt.
Ashworth reported directly to CEO Omar Berrada and was responsible for football performance and recruitment.
Ashworth’s exit comes at a cost, with United having paid £2-3m in compensation to Newcastle to secure his services, and now having to pay him off after just five months.
United have had a disappointing season so far. In October, they sacked manager Erik ten Hag after just three wins from their opening nine Premier League matches and appointed Portygues tactician Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has taken charge of 5 matches, winning 2, drawing once, and losing twice.
