Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh has done a review of Eric Chelle after Nigeria missed out qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 4-3 on penalties to the Leopards of DR Congo in the final of the CAF World Cup playoffs.
Super Eagles’ failure to secure qualification for the second consecutive World Cup continues to attract reactions on the future of the team and head coach Eric Chelle who came in January.
There have been calls for the sack of Eric Chelle but Sunday Oliseh believes that Franco-Malian manager has done well.
Oliseh revealed that he was one of the people that criticised the appointment of Eric Chelle but the former Malian coach has won him over.
He added that Chelle has outperformed the two managers that coached the team during the World Cup qualification before his appointment.
Oliseh made this revelation in a recent broadcast on his YouTube channel.
“I was one of those that criticised his appointment but he has done well. He has performed better than the two other managers (Jose Peseiro and Finish George). He has won me over”
Eric Chelle will lead the Super Eagles to next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and will be expected to match Jose Peseiro’s final berth in 2024 where Nigeria lost 2-1 to host Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
