The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed four places to 41st in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, reclaiming their position in Africa’s elite.
In the latest ranking released by FIFA, Nigeria has moved from 45th in the last ranking to 41st, moving back into Africa’s top five following the Victor Osimhen-inspired win against the Cheetahs.

This progress follows a strong finish to their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, highlighted by the Victor Osimhen-inspired 4-0 thrashing of the Benin Republic in Uyo, preceded by a 2-1 victory over Lesotho in Polokwane.

The cumulative effect of those results not only boosted Nigeria’s points tally but also officially confirmed their spot in the challenging continental playoffs for the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles are now set to face Gabon, who are currently ranked 77th in the world (15th in Africa), in the semi-finals of the African playoffs.
The winner of that clash will proceed to the final round to face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo for a chance to reach the intercontinental play-offs.
