Thomas Tuchel: Ex-Chelsea boss signs deal to become new England manager

Former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly signed an 18-month contract to replace Gareth Southgate as new England manager.

While the England FA are yet to comment on this, Sky Germany are reporting that the former PSG boss will take over from January 1.

There is no comment yet from the FA on this, but it would mean Lee Carsley remaining in interim charge for next month’s Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Confirmation could come as early as Wednesday’s planned Wembley press conference after advanced talks between Tuchel and the Football Association progressed rapidly on Tuesday.

Tuchel would become the third non-Englishman to hold the post after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello. While there were reports that Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola was the leading candidate, there is an acceptance that the ex-Barcelona man is out of reach.

The FA had made it clear at the start of its recruitment process in July that nationality was not an issue, they just wanted the best person for the job, and Tuchel appears to have been selected.
