Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, continued her stellar 2026 campaign on Sunday, winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris Diamond League in a season-equalling time of 12.28 seconds.
Competing at Stade Charléty, Amusan finished comfortably ahead of the field despite sitting fourth at the halfway mark, gradually building momentum before pulling clear in the closing stages. American duo Grace Stark and Alaysha Johnson rounded out the podium in 12.38s and 12.39s respectively.
The win marks the third time this season Amusan has clocked 12.28 seconds — her season’s best — having first hit the mark in Xiamen before repeating it in Rabat, where she also broke her own meeting record.
It’s her second Diamond League victory of the year and the latest highlight in a run of form that has included gold at the African Championships in Accra, Nigeria’s first of that competition.
Speaking after her win in Paris, Amusan reflected on her form and mindset:
“I do not like the warm weather at all, but whatever the weather, I was going to come out here and kill it – execution was alright.”
“I am just happy being injury-free. The pressure does not get to me.”
“I have a grace, which is the very strong system around me and that finish line. So, I am never worried about pressure on the night.”
“My approach to the hurdles varies. Sometimes, you are thinking what has just happened? On other days, it is really sloppy and I still come out and run a fast time. I try to take a shot at every race.”
“I’ll be competing at the Prefontaine Classic next, but I am yet to decide where to race after that.”
Amusan remains the world record holder in the event, having clocked 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon — a mark that still stands as the fastest time ever run in the women’s 100m hurdles.
