Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s former world champion and 100m hurdles record holder, has publicly condemned the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for providing her with substandard kits ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
In a video shared on X, Amusan showcased the low-quality kits, a far cry from the professional standards expected for a global event.

“Oh, Nigeria, all the other countries give their athletes suitcases. we get ours in a small nylon bag” she lamented.
‘Nigeria will steady embarrass you, that’s why people switch allegance to pther countries.”
This incident is not an isolated case but rather part of a persistent issue that has long plagued Nigerian sports.
It comes amid a backdrop of athlete frustration and high-profile defections, such as Favour Ofili’s recent switch to Turkey, which many attribute to similar problems with support.
The public backlash has been swift, with fans on social media demanding accountability from the AFN. This growing sentiment reflects a belief that Nigerian athletes deserve better and that systemic change is needed to ensure their talent is not wasted due to poor infrastructure and logistical failures.
