Liverpool’s head coach, Arne Slot, has reacted to Mohammed Salah’s exclusion from the squad ahead of the trip to Milan in the UEFA Champions League.
Mohammed Salah was dropped from the squad following his criticism of the club and manager in a recent outburst after he was dropped to the bench in three consecutive games.
In his open criticism of the club and the Dutch manager, Salah accused the club of throwing him under the bus over the recent poor results. He also revealed that he no longer has a good relationship with the manager, Arne Slot.
“I’m sitting on the bench, and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame,” Salah said.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
Arne Slot, in reaction to the development, said the club took action against Salah because of the gravity of the words he used in his chat with the media. The Dutch manager revealed that Salah’s words were “unacceptable.”
“Everybody can have his opinion… but it’s also up to us to react to them if a player uses words, and in the case of Mo Salah we can NOT accept”.
“The situation with Salah is from far ideal. Not good for anyone.”
“Not for the club, not for the team, not for him as well. So far from ideal. We reacted in the way we did and not to take him here. That’s why we felt about his comments”.
Mohammed Salah’s future at Liverpool now hangs in the balance as the former African Footballer of the Year heads to the Africa Cup of Nations in the days ahead.
“I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup of Nations,” he added. “I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”
The 33-year-old forward could be heading to Saudi Arabia on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations in January, with a couple of clubs in the league, including Al Hilal, who are deemed to be heavily linked to the two-time Premier League winner.
