In a recent episode of the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, Ivorian football legend Yaya Touré revealed that fellow countryman Didier Drogba once tried to lure him to Chelsea during his prime.
Touré, who is best known for his dominant spell at Manchester City, shared that Drogba reached out personally in hopes of bringing him to Stamford Bridge.
“Drogba really wanted me to come to Chelsea,” Touré said. “He spoke to me directly, saying the team needed someone like me in midfield, someone strong who could push the team forward.”
The revelation has sparked discussions among fans, who can only imagine what the Premier League might have looked like had Touré joined the Blues instead of City.
Touré eventually signed for Manchester City in 2010 from Barcelona and went on to become one of the most influential midfielders in the club’s history, winning three Premier League titles and an FA Cup.
“I had a lot of respect for Didier,” Touré added on the podcast. “He was like a big brother to me, always giving advice. But at the time, City’s project and ambition convinced me.”
