Bournemouth’s Unbelievable Season: Can They Qualify for the Champions League?

Bournemouth are having a remarkable season, and under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, the Cherries’ fans are daring to dream about UEFA Champions League football next season.

With England leading the coefficient rankings, the Premier League is set to be awarded a 5th spot next season, providing a golden opportunity for teams like Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Chelsea, unless things change in the coming months.

After the Cherries defeated Southampton 3-1 to move into 5th place, we look at their chances and why we feel they could be playing UCL football next season.

The Manager: Andoni Iraola

There’s no doubt that Bournemouth have one of the best managers in the league. Iraola’s methods are bold, modern, high-energy, and fluid, making them a threat to any team.

His tactical acumen and ability to motivate his players have been key factors in Bournemouth’s success.

Goals Win Games

Bournemouth are the 6th highest-scoring team in the league this season, with 44 goals. It’s no secret that teams that score a lot of goals usually finish high up the table.

The Cherries’ ability to score in bunches is remarkable, as evident in their 4-goal haul against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

As long as they keep firing on all cylinders, they should have enough to cling to 5th spot, especially with Chelsea struggling.

Away form

Most good teams are strong at home, which Bournemouth are, but the surprise is their away form. They have the fourth-best away record in the league, winning 6 of their 13 games on the road and picking up 22 points from 13 games.

Iraola has instilled belief in the likes of Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo, and others to go to tough away grounds and claim points.

Their away record is better than Chelsea, Newcastle, and even Manchester City.
